As part of the implementation of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development’s 2025 plan for food security projects, a delegation from the organization conducted a field visit to the Red Sea State in the Republic of Sudan during the period from July 2 to 4, 2025, as part of the activities of the “Red Sea Project to Support the Transformation of Agricultural Systems to Achieve Food Security.”

The visit began with a coordination meeting between a delegation from the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Red Sea State, where the project implementation plan and proposed areas for field interventions were discussed.

The field visit included a number of sites in the Sinkat and Sawakin localities and the Arkwet area, which were evaluated according to precise technical criteria set by the organization’s experts, including the availability of water and suitable soil, ease of access, and proximity to the beneficiary communities.

In Sinkat locality, the delegation visited the sites of Kobel, Hashtarbab, and Samad, where it was found that agricultural feasibility was weak in some areas, while promising potential was available in the upper part of Hafir Samad, particularly for the establishment of a greenhouse in the eastern region after the completion of hydrogeological studies.

The visit also included orchard farms A and B in the Arkwet area, with the former being recommended as a suitable site due to its abundant water and quality soil. At the Baksha farm, established by a local association with international support, it was noted that the infrastructure was conducive to implementing an integrated agricultural intervention.

At the end of the visit, the delegation visited the Tamaya Dam in Suakin Locality, a storage dam that supplies water via tankers to the city of Suakin. It represents a promising site for drilling new wells to support project activities, despite some challenges related to the nature of the soil and the density of mesquite trees.

The visit resulted in the development of comprehensive technical recommendations on suitable locations for launching project activities, which focus on supporting local agricultural communities and enhancing their resilience to climate change through modern and sustainable agricultural practices.
