The Kick of the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity COP 14


The Fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity was launched under the chairmanship of the Egyptian President His Excellency Abdel Fattah Sisi, on Saturday, 17th November 2018 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. A delegation from the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), headed by the Director General H.E Prof Ibrahim Adam El Dukheri participated in this meeting.

On the sidelines of the conference, AOAD held a consultative meeting for the Arab countries, which started with an important intervention by H.E Prof. Ibrahim El Dukheri, during which he gave a detailed presentation on AOAD’s efforts in protecting the environment and its special attention to biodiversity. As well as AOAD’s keenness to support its member countries after Sharm el-Sheikh event, particularly with regard to assessing the progress made in achieving the Aichi 2011-2020 goals. Moreover, the development of a new mechanism for implementing the Convention, to be adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties, that will be held in Beijing in 2020.

During this meeting, AOAD presented a presentation on the synergy between the three Ario conventions (climate, desertification and biodiversity). The focus was particularly on diagnosing the reality of synergy, its vision, access to it, its constraints and future prospects.
