The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) celebrated on the 27TH OF September of this year, the 41st anniversary of the Arab Food Day. The annual celebration of this day commemorates the date on which the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) commenced it's operations from it's seat in Khartoum, Sudan on 27/09/1972. Hence AOAD together with the Arab Ministries of Agriculture celebrate this occasion every year on the 27 TH of September.
AOAD used to choose an issue of agricultural importance as
a theme for the day, such that all the celebration functions will be focused on it. This year's topic was chosen as:
"Fish Culture and Food Security"
In his speech during the occasion, H.E Dr. Al-Zadjali, the Director General of AOAD, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the cooperation and efforts extended by their Excellencies the Arab Ministers of Agriculture in supporting the cause of the organization. He outlined the efforts of the organization in supporting the Arab countries efforts to maintain food security over the last four decades thus succeeding in reducing the Arab food gap in spite of the serious regional and international social, economic and climatic challenges that prevailed.
He explained the rationale for choosing fish culture and food security as the theme for this year's day. He outlined the importance of fish meat for a healthy life and the role to be played by fish culture in realizing Arab Food Security through the provision of a healthy and accessible natural protein diet to the people. Fish farming also helps in preserving the natural fish resources and providing job opportunities.
