The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development participated in the coordination meetings of the sustainable development partners for the resources and pastoral communities

Within the framework of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) efforts to activate partnership with local and regional organizations and institutions, the Regional Office of AOAD in the Arab Mashreq Region participated in the coordination meetings held from the 31st of March to the 1st of April 2019, at the headquarters of the Hashemete Fund for the Development of Jordan Badia. The meetings were chaired by Hon. Sharifa Zein Al Sharaf Bint Nasser chairperson of the board of trustees of the Hashemite Fund for Development of Jordan Badia, in the presence of the Director General of the Fund, representatives of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) / Regional Office of West Asia and a number of representatives of the pastoral communities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

These meetings were part of activating the memorandums of understanding signed recently by AOAD with the Hashemite Fund and the International Federation to prepare for the meeting of the Arab Network of Pastoral Communities, which is planned to be held in partnership with the IUCN as part of the regional project on sound ecosystems for rangeland development in the Jordanian capital Amman during the coming period.

The meetings discussed the proposal of cooperation and the steps of launching the network of pastoral communities, which includes the pastoral environment in all its components and under the umbrella of AOAD.

Hon. Sharifa stressed the importance of the network and her full readiness to cooperate with all parties. She explained her idea of the pastoral school which was to provide training courses for young people from the Badia region to transfer their expertise and knowledge to develop their environments. She gave an invitation to visit the Fund's nursery, which contained unique pastoral plants, and work on spreading this experience to the Arab countries. Furthermore she presented the idea of the Arab Badia Festival, which can change the desert environment to production, industry and exchange of expertise and a platform for research and study of the Bedouin environment.

The Hon. Sharifa, chairperson of the board of trustees of the Hashemite Fund for Development of Jordan Badia, was approved to be appointed as the Honorary President of the Network.
