The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) inaugurated a training course on "Remote Sensing and its Applications in the Agricultural and Fisheries Sector". The training course was during the period from the 10th till the 14th of December 2017 at the AOAD's office in Cairo, Egypt.. The participants were (20) from Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya.
H.E Dr. Ahmed Abdul Waly Al Samawi, the Assistant Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), referred in his speech at the opening session to the importance of introducing modern technology in the agricultural and fisheries sector. Technologies such as the remote sensing applications and geographic information systems, to achieve multiple objectives such as determining the land areas and the locations of natural resources in the Arab countries.
He also noted that the importance of this training course lies in the presence of many distinguished experts in the field of remote sensing and GIS applications. He stressed the need to interact and exchange experiences and information among the participants, which will have a positive impact.
The training course included theoretical and practical lectures on the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems. The topics were as follows; the basics of geographic information systems, how to collect the required data, the basics of remote sensing, the use of geographic information systems in the agricultural and fisheries sector and using GIS software and posting them on the Web.
