On the 28th of March 2018 the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry organized the Arab Regional Organic Agriculture Forum, in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) and the Sudanese Society for Consumer Protection, under the theme "Sustainable Organic Agriculture for Food Safety and Consumer Protection".
The forum aimed to highlight the importance of organic agriculture and its position in the Arab agriculture and present some successful Arab experiences. During the forum sessions, the Director General Assistant of AOAD, Dr. Ahmed Al Samawi, addressed the audience on the importance of identifying the specifications and requirements for reaching organic agriculture that reflects the ultimate goal of protecting the Arab consumer. He said that Arab countries have got natural resources that make organic agriculture a distinctive figure in Arab agricultural production, pointing to the role played by AOAD through the issuance of regulations, rules and guidelines in many agricultural products and that the AOAD is ready to cooperate with the competent authorities in the work of a guide for the Organic Agriculture.
AOAD presented three papers dealing with the fields of agriculture and fishery development, presenting the resources the Arab region has got especially Sudan. The papers presented also some successful agricultural projects in the Arab countries. The forum was attended by many experts and university professors and officials of federal and state agriculture ministries and a number of people interested in agriculture issues.
It is worth mentioning that the forum was held on the sidelines of the Sudanese National Agricultural Week organized by the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and a number of public and private institutions in Sudan.
