The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) held a training course "Marine Aquaculture (Basics - Obstacles - Solutions)" on Sunday 5-9 August 2018 in Cairo, Egypt. The participants were 23 trainees veterinarians and researchers in this field.
The course aim was to raise awareness to the importance of mariculture projects, reduce the food gap, provide a safe source of animal protein, introduce trainees to modern techniques in marine fish culture and marine fish breeding, and the main methods used to combat diseases of farmed fish and ways to overcome marine fish struggles. In addition the course aimed to raise the capacity and abilities of trainees to serve marine aquaculture projects.
The course included lectures on the basics of mariculture and its components in Egypt and the basics of hatchery of fish and common diseases in hatcheries. It also included lectures on the most important bacterial and viral diseases affecting fish and their control methods. Moreover, the main problems that impede the sustainability of mariculture projects in Egypt.
