AOAD Director General participated in Khalifa International Award

 for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation,


On the 19th of March 2018, the Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) H.E Prof. Ibrahim Adam El-Dukheri and his accompanying delegation participated in the sixth conference of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

AOAD participated in organizing the conference flow of work. Moreover, AOAD headed a working session through which it presented its’ efforts in developing and protecting the date palm sector in the Arab region. As well as the joint effort between the AOAD and FAO in preparing a strategic framework for the development of the date palm sector in the Arab region throughout the value chain of date palm. AOAD also participated in the conference exhibition.

 AOAD also held a joint workshop between experts from AOAD, FAO, Arab countries and other foreign countries. The workshop discussed the strategic framework and achievements for the study of the date palm value chain in the Arab region. Moreover, AOAD held a number of meetings with Arab and international institutions that have joint working relations.

On a side meeting held between the Director General of FAO Mr. José Graziano da Silva praised the outstanding cooperation with AOAD in the activities related to sustainable agricultural development in the Arab region.  

 The Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) H.E Prof. Ibrahim Adam El Dukheri, expressed his happiness on participating in the Sudanese Agriculture National Week organized` by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in cooperation with development partners under the theme "Agriculture, the engine of economic growth and poverty reduction" from the 23rd to the 29th of March 2018.

H.E Prof. El Dukheri stressed AOAD's efforts to achieve food security and sustainable agricultural development through agricultural strategies and programs in Arab countries. The strategies such as the Egypt's agricultural development strategy, King Abdullah Initiative for Agricultural Investment Abroad, President Bashir's initiative for Arab food security, Green Arab Morocco Plan's strategy, Livestock Development Strategy in Oman, the Iraqi Agricultural Initiative and the Agricultural Renewal Program in Algeria. He added that Sudan is able to achieve the Arab Food Security Initiative for Sudan's potentials and natural resources. He noted that AOAD is one of the League of Arab States organizations and represents the technical arm of the League in the sustainable agricultural development.

 He added that AOAD has contributed in the meetings and arrangements for the agricultural week with the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture, noting that the AOAD participated in the activities associated with the event and presented a number of scientific papers on the development of the agricultural sector, animal and fish in the Arab region, organic agriculture and food safety and total quality management.

The National Agriculture Week included lectures on sustainable agriculture, integrated management of agricultural natural resources, contract farming and innovative partnerships with the private sector, including a number of experiences and initiatives such as the FAO Regional Initiative for Family Farming in the Near East and North Africa, Integration of the National Plan for Investment in Agriculture and the ICT Strategy in Agriculture. In addition the week included lectures on agricultural systems, climate change and the integration of gender and youth in agricultural development.

 AOAD participated in the accompanying exhibition reflecting some of its contributions to food security and sustainable agricultural development in the Arab region in general and in Sudan in particular.
