On the 14th of March 2018, the Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) H.E Prof. Ibrahim Adam El-Dukheri and his accompanying delegation had a field trip with the Chadian Minister of Agriculture, to El Buheira state in Chad. The delegation was received by the governor of the state, government officials and farmers associations at Boll city in Buheira state.
The delegation had a tour around the model farms built on lands that were originally submerged. Water was evacuated through constructing baffles. 3000 hectare currently are obtained by groups of farmers (women, men) distributed around the region. The reclamation has been done by Islamic & Arab Funding Institutions. Preparations are now under way to expand these areas, as the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa has agreed to finance these studies by 400000 dollar.
The delegation also visited a research farm of "Alyakon" cows, which are known for their economic importance in producing milk. The cows are threatened by extinction due to the effects of climate change.
The efforts of this trip came in the context of exploring new opportunities for AOAD in African countries to obtain contractual projects expanding its sources of self-financing. That came according to the repeated recommendations of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States urging specialized Arab organizations to diversify their sources of income and not to depend entirely on their traditional resources and to achieve the greatest possible level of self-financing.
The visit aimed to strengthen the relations of cooperation between Africa and the Arab world, as came in the resolutions of the joint Arab-African summits.
