Under the patronage of the Lebanese Prime Minister Al Sheikh Saad Al Hariri, a ceremony was held on Saturday 22/6/2019 to lay the Foundation Stone for the Integrated Economic Development Project for the province of Kharoub in Kafia, Lebanon.
The ceremony was attended by the MP H.E Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajjar, Representing the President H.E Mr Saad Al Hariri. It was also attended by the Minister of Displaced Mr Ghassan Attallah and H.E Prof Ibrahim Adam El Dukheri the Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and H.E the President of the Arab League in Beirut and a large gathering of scholars, clerics and people of the region.
The project aimed to build an integrated economic model for a number of integrated agricultural economic projects such as cattle farms, dairy factories and some food industries that depend on the local products of the region and an environmental tourism complex. The project also included an Entrepreneurship Center to train the youth on entrepreneurship and innovation, in order to create sustainable economic development in the region and provide job opportunities for the youth and women from the region and encourage the displaced to return to contribute to the development of their region.
It is worth mentioning that the project is being implemented by several local and international bodies including the Investment Promotion Center, Bank Misr Liban, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, the Arab League in Beirut, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Lebanese ministries.
At the end of the ceremony, honorary shields were presented to a number of the project participants, including the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), represented by its Director General H.E Prof Ibrahim El Dukheri, in recognition of his great efforts in supporting the project from the beginning, moreover a protocol of cooperation was signed between AOAD and project management.
